MUTINY withIN THE STUDIO 002

Just two weeks to go!

We're planning to bring 20-25 songs with us to Florida. For our 1st week there, we'll work with Jason to help narrow down the list to 15 or so. In the meantime, we've been working hard at writing/recording new songs, revising old songs, and maintaining focus everyday. You only get one chance to make a debut record and we want to deliver.

Recently, we uploaded some new pictures to our Myspace page. Included are some live shots, a picture of our latest article in Metal Hammer Magazine, and photos of us hanging out with members from some of our favorite bands: Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God, Devildriver, Soilwork, God Forbid, and Symphony X. Oh, and let's not forget Chris' vocal teacher, Melissa Cross!

Last week, The Metal Den conducted an interview with the 6 of us. Our interviewer, Rocket, asked some awesome questions! We'll post a link to it on our SMNnews.com forum and Myspace page this week.

Next Monday, we'll be sure to upload a video along with the post. It'll include footage of us recording our final pre-production songs, showing off our gear, and practicing our Le Parkour moves! See you then...

MUTINY withIN THE STUDIO 001

Part One of the Mutiny Within video diaries documenting the progression from pre-studio demo's to recording their debut album with producer Jason Suecof.

Hey everyone, AJ & Chris here for "Week #2." This update also includes a video, check it all out below:

Last Saturday, SMNnews.com created an official forum for Mutiny Within! On it, we've launched a thread called "Ask The Band." Post any questions that you have for us and we'll try to answer them daily.

Moving on, we've narrowed down the list of songs that we're planning to bring to the studio to 20. In addition to these 20, we're aiming to write and record 4 more songs before we head down to Florida.

TheCore.FM conducted an interview with us last Thursday. We discussed many things, including our career to date and prospects for the future. The host, Peter, gave us the chance to select some songs from our favorite bands to play on the air. We picked tracks from Scar Symmetry, Children Of Bodom, All That Remains, All Shall Perish, and Soilwork, amongst others.

Lastly, if you aren't already, make sure to become a Roadrunner Records subscriber by visiting Roadrunnerrecords.com. Once logged in, you can opt to receive news and alerts, specifically regarding Mutiny Within!

Only 3 weeks until we hit the studio! Check in every Monday for the latest.

MUTINY withIN THE STUDIO INTRODUCTION!

Hey everyone, welcome to the launch of "MUTINY withIN THE STUDIO!"

In less than one month, we'll be entering Audio Hammer Studios with Jason Suecof to record our debut album, and this page will be the official place to visit, as we'll be documenting the entire process.

In the upcoming weeks, you'll find pictures, studio videos, and much more. New updates will be issued every Monday. The 1st post can be found below:

WEEK #1

Currently, we're spending most of our time working on songs. There have been 36 written since our vocalist, Chris, joined the band. When including the 14 songs that were written prior, our list hits 50. The plan is to narrow it down to 20, and then eventually to about 15. Narrowing down the list isn't easy, but it’s fun as hell. All you need is 6 metalheads, 3 hours, 2 cases of beer, and 1 VERY LOUD stereo.

Moving on, if you didn't already read the news post on RoadrunnerRecords.com and/or on our myspace, Jeff recently had his car STOLEN from the Menlo Park Mall parking lot in Edison, NJ. In addition, his guitar and Drew's keyboard were inside the trunk. The police did, however, recover the car. It was left abandoned in Elizabeth, NJ, stripped and totaled. So I think it’s safe to expect some real fuckin’ metal. Send an instant message to COREREQUESTS if you want to request a song or ask us a question. Visit TheCore.FM to stream the show live, this Thursday night, from 7 PM - 9 PM. And if you live in the NJ area, tune in to 90.3 FM.

Lastly, be sure to visit RoadrunnerRecords.com/Artists/Mutiny to download the "Oblivion" MP3 for free! Also, visit http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/music/view.aspx?songID=2224 to embed, review, and rate our songs!

Check back in next Monday to find a video update, some pictures, and additional news.

MUTINY WITHIN GOING ON THE AIR THURSDAY NIGHT!

Roadrunner Records MUTINY WITHIN will be in the studio at Rutgers Radio on Thursday, November 20th from 7-9pm. Be sure to listen in at 90.3 FM if you are in the NY / NJ area, or listen to it streaming live online at TheCore.fm!

Mutiny Within started with tons of promise. They also started young. Typical story of a bunch of New Jersey kids who stayed home and practiced the shit out of their instruments til their fingers bled and their brains were just as full of the complexities of chords and melodies as they were high school trigonometry. When the Jacobs brothers, bassist AJ, guitarist Brandon; and keyboardist Drew Stavola started playing together under the nom de plum of Mutiny in 2002, it probably wasn't to get girls at all -- it was to emulate their first musical heroes and influences: prog-metallers like Symphony X and Dream Theater as well as Euro-shredders including Soilwork and Children of Bodom.

Of course there were the more traditional rock and metal influences to the Mutiny framework and the combination made for a sound at once brimming with technicality and plenty of "shred" but with hooks and songwriting sensibilities far beyond their fresh-out-of-high-school age. There was the early phase of the band with a pure death metal screamer fronting things. That came to an end quickly. A good stretch of musical soul-searching followed. Mutiny Within evolved and went through a few musical stages -- joking referred to as "Children of Mutiny", "Dream Mutiny", "Mutinyforce", etc. The time found the band recording demos and gigging locally and with national acts including 3 Inches of Blood and Symphony X. But also coming upon the realization that a capable voice and frontman was needed.

Thank you Youtube. Mutiny Within's search for the right frontman brought them to the UK where demos from former With Intent vocalist Chris Clancy deemed him "most likely to end up in a metal band from New Jersey". Ironically, Clancy was the first and the best of a few aspiring Mutiny Within frontmen. A plane ticket. A couple more days of demoing and a main support gig to UK doomsters Paradise Lost won Chris the job. No pressure, there, right? Apparently, Chris -- whose musical tastes run from Lamb of God to Queen -- picked up some valuable opera training along the way. Now with the addition of drummer Bill Fore and Dallas-born guitarist Jeff Stewart, Mutiny Within has found its lineup and crucial chemistry.

Oh yeah, somehow all the hard work, musical prowess, songsmanship and the Clancy fronted vocal prowess won Mutiny Wthin a deal with Roadrunner Records. Oh, the stuff that childhood dreams are made of? Naw, they busted ass, lucked out with the right singer and made it happen. What's next? A lot of workshedding as Mutiny Within spend the next few months grinding out songs in the Jacobs family basement, a few gigs here and there and a record due in early 09.

Meet Mutiny Within. New Jersey's (and Blackpool, England's) youngest and best shred-prog-metal kings. The top of Generation Guitar Hero's graduating class.
