NEW SITE CHANGES!
You may have noticed that over the past few months quiet changes have been made to the site. First we gave you new artist pages. Check out your favorite and you'll find widgets, videos, music, and much more. Plus they look great.
A few weeks back we also updated our Artists page. You'll see highlighted artists up top in blue. These change as artists are updated with news, video, and music. This is a great page to make your first port-of-call after the news section!
Today we've relaunched three other pages. Music and Video are all new. You can now embed all of our music and video posted to the site in your blog, web site, or MySpace/Facebook profiles. At the right of these pages you'll see charts driven by what YOU do on our site. You can also leave comments at all songs and videos, rate them, and favorite them in our new profile system (more on that in a sec).
The Releases page has gotten a huge makeover. Every album now has its own home page where you can see the available tracks, rate it, leave a review, or comment on others' reviews. Snazzy huh?
Finally, we just launched our new profile pages. If you're a subscriber to our email newsletters, you can log in, add your own picture, keep track of the latest updates on our site (and partner sites), follow your favorite videos and music, and tell us what bands you want to hear about.
Of course, many of these new features require that you be a member of the site to use them, so please join today!
We are, of course, in a beta phase and need your help to make the site work the best for YOU. If you see any problems or want to suggest changes to the new features, please send an email to webmaster@roadrunnerrecords.com with "NEW SITE REPORT" in the subject line. If you receive an error, please be as detailed as possible, including what page you were on, what browser you are using, and copy any error message you receive into the body of the email.

DEDICATION TO SLIPKNOT
Roadrunner's buddies in the Australian office set up a competition for Slipknot fans pre-release and got a whopping response. The idea was to make as big a splash as possible about the record and there were some impressive entries.
The winner could be chided for getting his entry in at the last minute, but boy did he show his Maggot dedication. Check out the winner's pics below.

SLIPKNOT TAKES OVER THE MTV VMA'S

We’re guessing not too many of you tuned in to watch this year’s MTV Video Music Awards since the program didn’t feature any heavy metal awards and the “Best Hard Rock” video went to Linkin Park, which some may embrace as a guilty pleasure, but let’s face it, they ain’t metal. Hell, they’re barely hard rock. Still, there were some cool metal moments at the event, including Slipknot on the red carpet and a brief post-show interview with the band. All the more reason that proves Slipknot isn't a real metal band. Real metal bands don't involve themselves with MTV video award shows. When was the last time you heard of Morbid Angel, Suffocation, or Carcass being nominated for video of the year or even best metal video? It never happened because they are metal and Slipknot is "metal" for mallrat posers. Hey "maggots" (sheep following the herd), go listen to a real metal band, but for god's sake, don't refer to Slipknot as one of the heaviest bands out there. Maybe the heaviest band played on Clear Channel radio, but not over all by a long shot. Slipknot at the MTV awards show...what a joke.

Hey Brad!, you have it totally backwards. MTV doesn't involve themselves with real metal bands except for 1 or 2. I know that if MTV truly cared about metal, Most, if not all, metal bands would line up to have their vids played. After all, their sucsess is on the line and the only way to get their names out there is to have their songs and vids played on as many media outlets as possible. But the fucked up truth is MTV doesn't care that much about metal. When a metal bands gain a high level of popularity (like Slipknot or Metallica), It's like puting a gun to MTV's head and forcing them to care.

ddamm30, what do you mean Slipknot "brought metal back"? Where did it ever go? Metal was at its strongest between the mid 80s and early 90s, but after that all you have to do is look for it in the underground. It never went away. Just because its not on tv or radio plastered in the mainstream doesnt mean it is dead or doesnt exist. You have to dig a little deeper than that to find metal, because mtv and radio does not want to admit it exists. As for the comment "never seen or heard anything like them"...come on! There have always been bands that dress up in outfits and masks/makeup. Ever heard of a band called Kiss? As far as never hearing a band like them...dime a dozen, especially since I am hearing on the new album screaming verses and singing choruses. That is a metalcore style that Killswitch Engage may not have invented, but they certainly perfected and now 500 metalcore bands that came after KSE have copied. I think the only one thing that distinguished them from every other band from the very beginning is a gimmick, the masks. Their sound is nothing special. I dont say all this because I think they suck. I actually have their cds. That doesnt mean I listen to them every day or refer to myself as a "maggot". I just dont see what the big deal is about them other than the fact that newbe "metalheads" think they are the best thing since sliced bread. And they really arent that heavy anyway. To me, it sounds like Corey let the fame and mainstream popularity of the Stone Sour hits go to his head, so much that Stone Sour sound is bleeding into Slipknot's music. Anyway, I just think it is funny that younger kids are worshipping this band refering to themselves as "maggots" and thinking they are the heaviest band on earth. I think they are just a mainstream hard rock band. Listen to some Suffocation, Malevolent Creation, or Morbid Angel and we will start talking who is heavy.

This reminds me of when people thought Metallica were the greatest thing ever after Master Of Puppets in 1986-87 but they sucked in 1988-89 when they made the video for "One", 'cause then their friends got into it. Or when Fear Factory incorporated samples and synths into their sound for "Demanufacture". Or when Cradle of Filth introduced more melody into their songs. I could go on and on about hundreds of other bands in every genre. The point is, if you like them, fucking great! Buy the shit, live the shit, go see the shows, whatever! If you don't like them, don't listen and stop judging! Popular (including metal) is a BUSINESS built on popularity. A lot of small local bands I've seen can blow the doors off of most "big" metal bands but most of the world hasn't heard them and they're not trying to get into the music industry "machine", they just like playing for a few hundred people that appreciate the music and go to their own beds at night. Does that mean their songs or shows aren't as good as a band just because they opted to go to a record label, get a budget, and get on MTV? Music is everywhere you want to look for it, good and bad, so just grow up, like what you like, and stay away from what you don't like! Is it that hard?

Brad is the typical show off. Bashing on one band he doesn't like, because their musical career has gone farther than any of his favorite bands, such as Carcass. Brad bashed on Slipknot just because they showed up at the VMA's expecting to ahve a good time. Well what was Carcass doing anyways? Probably nothing, but it doesn't matter what they were doing anyways.
I think you (Brad) should just apprechiate Slipknot, because even though you don't consider them metal, there are millions of people that do. And they have had a much bigger impact on the world of metal than any bands you have mentioned. And they are deffinately talented (you didn't say they weren't, I'm just stating), there is no denying that.

every single one of you throw out good points. im with everyone. carcass and dying fetus are amazing, slipknot is incredible, and metalcore is the shit. what matters is the fact that every band is out there playing what we as rock/metal/death/hardcore lovers like to hear and get amped over. how many people actually read this and got stoked everytime someones favorite band was mentioned. did all the maggots not get pissed when brad said somethin about slipknot, and did all the death metal fans get pissed when someone said something about their bands. read an album cover, all the bands give thanks to the other fuckin bands because they all enjoyin playin OUR music and keepin us entertained. if it werent for cannibal corpse or deicide, modern hardcore wouldnt exist. or if there was no metallica or 90's metal slipknot wouldnt exist. for fucks sake if there wasnt 80's hair bands or 70's classics or even fuckin 50's blues none of this would exist. i agree with whoever said open your mind and listen. all fuckin music is about is how it makes YOU feel when you listen to it and being blown away completely when you hear that perfect fuckin band.

Let's just all face it, Slipknot is good if you don't have any appreciation for music. If you did appreciate music, you would take the time to research and find out that there are way way way more talented musicians out there; without gimmicks, like masks. My suggestions: Necrophagist, Between the Buried and Me, Glass Casket, Into the Moat, Pysopus. And anyone who says Slipknot is the heaviest band obviously hasn't heard very much metal, and that's a totally ignorant thing to say; but makes sense coming from people who probably live in trailer parks.....
